This IIT Roorkee alumnus now has a key role in Elon Musk’s SpaceX. True story

A LinkedIn profile of an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee has taken social media by storm. From humble beginnings with Indian Railways to a key role at Elon Musk’s SpaceX, Sanjeev Sharma’s journey has charmed the internet.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Sharma started his career with Indian Railways as a Divisional Mechanical Engineer. His dedication saw him rise through the ranks to become Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer, a position he held for over 11 years.
However, his ambitions led him to pursue further education as he enrolled in an MS programme at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2002. This move marked the beginning of his international career.
Upon completing his MS in Mechanical Engineering, Sharma joined Seagate Technology in 2003, where he worked as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, and contributed to the American tech giant for a total of five years.
During his time at Seagate, he also earned an MS in Management of Technology from the University of Minnesota in 2008.
In 2013, Sharma’s career took a giant leap when he joined SpaceX as a Dynamics Engineer. His work at the company involved leading efforts in structural dynamics as he played a crucial role in the recovery and reusability of the Falcon 9 rocket boosters. His accomplishments were nothing short of stellar.
Sharma’s engineering prowess also saw him leading projects at Matternet Inc., a drone delivery system developer, before returning to SpaceX in 2022 as a Principal Engineer for Starship Dynamics.
